This model of the steamship Bertrand was made by Elden "Jack" Roberson of Ames and presented to the Desoto Bend National Wildlife Regufe near Missouri Valley, Iowa. the Bertrand, sunk on April 1, 1865, and retrieved from the river bottom in 1968-69, yielded a well-preserved cargo now on display in the refuge visitors center, which opened in 1981.
