Located just south of Strawberry Point and northwest of Manchester in northeast Iowa, Backbone State Park has a man-made lake which is shown in this photograph taken by Farwell Brown during a vacation in 1985. The rental cabins can be seen in the right of this photograph. Backbone State Park was the first state park in Iowa and is still the largest. The park was named after a formation of rocks which resemble a spinal column.
