A modern (@1986) photo of the Lincoln Highway concrete marker on the corner of the old Highway 30 and Airport Road (north and south past the National Guard Airport, east of Boone) showing how the old sign had been partially covered with soil and plant growth. It was at this location that the brigade led by Dwight Eisenhower stopped for a noon meal in 1919 in the midst of its transcontinental surveying trip, following World War I.
