Ruth Brown, wife of Farwell T. Brown, retired in 1976 after teaching 17 years at Meeker Elementary School. She also taught in the Child Development Department at Iowa State University. Except for four years, Brown taught kindergarten while at Meeker. She also served as president of her P.E.O. chapter, the Book and Basket Club, and the Church Women's Fellowship (Congregational Church). In 1982, she was president of the Ames Area Retired Teachers Association.
