Plaque on a rock in Backbone State Park in Delaware County in northeast Iowa indicates that in 1928 the Daughters of the American Revolution of Iowa sponsored the planting of 6,000 trees in the park. The plaque was added by the the Iowa D.A.R. in 1936. At the time Farwell Brown took this photo in the 1980s, the trees were fully mature. Backbone is Iowa's first state park, dedicated in 1920.
