Commemorative metal plate on a stone in Backbone State park, located in Delaware County in northeast Iowa. The plaque reads: "CCC 1933 to 1942/ We salute the accomplishments of the U. S. Civilian Conservation Crops Co. 1756 and Co. 781. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 3.5 million 'tree army' began work in 1933. Iowa Governor Clyde Herring received the completed project in Backbone State Park May 8, 1935./ In this setting of overwhelming beauty, the C.C.C.'s spirited handiwork will forever be a monument to youth of the 1930s and to Iowa's natural heritage.
