Exterior of the Bauge family log cabin after it had been moved to the Story County Conservation Board's McFarland Park, northeast of Ames. The moving and eventual reconstruction of the house to its original "log" wall interior was a project of the Ames Heritage Associaton. Note that the cabin, which was moved from a site near Huxley, Iowa, is covered with milled siding. That is the usual treatment for log cabins and, indeed, the siding is essential to the preservation of the exterior. The cabin is now used as a museum showing rural family life as it was from 1890-1910 when the Bauges occupied the home.
