Nominations Sought for Historic Preservation Awards

The Ames Historic Preservation Commission is seeking nominations for the 2022 Preservation Awards Program. This program recognizes a variety of historic preservation activities, including work on building exteriors, site work, and other notable contributions to preservation in Ames.

The historic resources that are nominated must be located within the city limits of Ames, have undergone historic rehabilitation, restoration, or historic preservation, and be at least 50 years old. Battery Electric Buses Are Coming! Help Decide Their New Look!

CyRide will soon be getting two new battery electric buses, which are scheduled to be delivered by the end of June 2022. These clean vehicles were funded by the Federal Transit Administration Low- or No-Emission Grant program for $1.6 million and the Iowa Department of Transportation Volkswagen Settlement Environmental Mitigation Trust for $390,000.

Stay Involved in Climate Action Planning: Meetings Set & Survey Available

The public is encouraged to stay involved in the process of creating a community-wide Climate Action Plan (CAP) for Ames. There are several opportunities in December to participate in the process, learn more about carbon reduction target-setting, and to provide feedback.

Developing a CAP is part of the Ames City Council goal of valuing environmental sustainability, and the City of Ames has completed several preliminary steps toward developing a plan for Ames. Ames Plan 2040 Public Hearings

Ames Plan 2040 is a new Comprehensive Plan to guide the growth and change of the Community over the next 20 years. This plan will replace the City's current plan that was adopted in 1997. The Plan addresses the Vision for the City related to Land Use & Growth, Mobility, Community Character, Environment, Parks and Recreation, and Neighborhoods, Housing, and Sub-areas.

Climate Action Plan Emissions Reduction Survey Available on City Website until Dec. 10

A survey to generate feedback from Ames residents on greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals as part of the City’s climate action planning is now available on the City’s website. Participants are asked to take the survey one time to share their thoughts on this part of the planning process. The survey is available at  and will remain available through 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10. Paper copies of the survey will be available at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., by the end of the week.
