Bored? Games! to Liven Up Wednesday Nights

by Robyn Rohde

Picture if you a will, a household of four adults sitting around the dinning table. So far, the evening is going great. The dinner was delicious. Conversation flowed. You even managed to avoid the disapproving eye roll of your mother chastising your wardrobe. For after dinner entertainment, you stay gracious as you slide that final tile into your web of design during Azul. When you count your points, you have in fact, demolished your father’s score by double digits.

Is this scene paradise? Well maybe not for everyone. For me, I have never felt more perfectly fulfilled than when I am victorious in board game nights. If you are chasing that feeling of supremacy or just a chill evening with friends, Ames Public Library has a new offering for you.

Starting June 18, Ames Public Library is hosting “Bored? Games!”, an adult board game night every month. The library has a selection of tabletop game available, or feel free to bring a favorite to share. Are you interested in playing 7 Wonders but table space is at a premium? Maybe you want to get together with friends without having to clean the house first. No matter what draws you to it, Bored? Games! has you covered.

All gaming experience levels are welcome. If strategy is your desire, Azul and Splendor both have engine-building mechanics and beautiful pieces. If you are in a more sinister mood, Kill Doctor Lucky is an inversion of Clue, where players try to get away with murder. Dixit is a low-pressure communication-centered party game. Gain your fortune farming beans in Bohnanza.

Snacks will be provided. Everyone 18 or older is welcome. Bring your friends or make new ones, Bored? Games! happens the third Wednesday of each month starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Ames Public Library Auditorium.

It’s bound to be a good time, even if your dad wins.
