America 250: Streamliners Across Iowa

Sleek railroad Streamliners criss-crossed Iowa from the mid-1930s through the 1950s.  Transportation consultant Bob Bourne will cover some of the important design elements characteristic of railroad streamlining and talk about the memorable trains that ran through Iowa on several railroads.  There will be an emphasis on the Streamliners of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad through central Iowa.

Bob Bourne is actively involved in researching and presenting railroad and bus history in Iowa at the Ames History Museum, the James H. Andrew Museum and History Center at the Boone and Scenic Valley RR and the Osher Life Long Learning Institute (OLLI) at ISU.  He was the manager of CyRide from 1981 to 2006 and is now a transit consultant that specializes in improving bus service in small urban, rural, university and tribal systems.

This free event is part of Iowa's "America 250: Along the Lincoln Highway Heritage Byway" series, presented by Ames Public Library, Ames History Museum, Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State University - University Museums, and Prairie Rivers of Iowa.
