Ames artist Kristin M Roach's Junk Mail Migration project was initially inspired by the question, "Where does junk mail come from?" which led to identifying the impact of deforestation on Iowa’s backyard, migratory bird populations.

Paintings: The Junk Mail Migration exhibit in the Library's entryway will feature some of Roach's paintings of migratory birds.

 

About the Artist

Kristin M Roach (she/her) is an artist, author, and apothecary owner. Trained in painting with a history in craft & fibers (Craft Leftovers), she takes an interdisciplinary approach to her work.

Kristin uses scientific data and cast-off materials to create drawings, paintings, and immersive installations about backyard ecology. Kristin is best known for her monochromatic paintings of migratory birds on 
junk mail. Her art and zines are internationally exhibited and collected and her book, Mend it Better, has been published worldwide. She currently lives and works in Ames, Iowa.
