Topic — “For God, Gold, and Glory: Iowans in China around the Turn of 20th Century”

Speaker — Prof. Tao Wang

The experiences of Iowans in China at the tumultuous turn of the 20th century varied widely.

This talk details how a missionary couple (Charles and Eva Price), an ambassador and his wife (Edwin and Sarah Conger), and future president Herbert Hoover and First Lady Lou Henry Hoover understood and affected China, Iowa, and U.S.-China relations.

Presented in partnership with Ames Public Library and Iowa State University Department of History.
