Program Description

Program Details

Join us for a Better Angels Skills Workshop and learn skills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences, search for common ground, and affirm the importance of the relationship. After a presentation, participants will have an opportunity to practice conversation skills in pairs with someone of the same political persuasion —red or blue. (“Reds” lean conservative and tend to vote Republican. “Blues” lean liberal and tend to vote Democratic. Those who fall somewhere in the middle will choose a side for purposes of practicing the skills.)

Discussion will be moderated by Kim Pontius, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and co-founder of Clear Brook Counseling Professionals in Ames, and Brad Rahmiller, a high school social studies teacher and an adjunct teacher at Marshalltown Community College.

Sign in begins at 9:15am.

Provided in partnership with Ames Public Library, League of Women Voters, Ames & Story County, Story County Democrats and Story County Republicans.
