The mechanics of how we vote is an aspect of our political system that most people take for granted. Yet, the workings of our voting system can have a big impact on the health of our republic.

In this talk, Matt Wetstein from Better Ballot Iowa will take a deep dive into the current voting system and why it no longer seems to work. We’ll learn about ranked choice voting and how this small change to how we vote could significantly improve politics in Iowa and beyond.

We’ll hold a mock ranked choice election and have plenty of time for Q&A.

Presenter: Matt Wetstein is a professor of physics at Iowa State who lives with his family in Ames. He is a volunteer for Better Ballot Iowa, a new 501c3 he helped cofound to bring better elections to Iowa.
