Small Talk Project Coordinator

SALARY: $24.2367 Hourly; 10-20 hours/week

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Ames Public Library is currently accepting applications for a Small Talk Project Coordinator.

Under direction of the Library Director and Youth Services Manager, manage the LENA Start program, comparison data collection and the early language consulting program as part of the Small Talk Project. This part-time position will last for the duration of the grant period.

 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilizes Smartsheet project management software to manage all aspects of the Small Talk Project;
  • Develops and implements program parameters;
  • Sets up and maintains office including LENA analysis work stations, inventory storage, and LENA hardware storage;
  • Oversees recruitment of program participants;
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community partners for recruitment;
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community sponsors;
  • Writes and manages grants;
  • Oversees purchasing for Small Talk;
  • Tracks expenses;
  • Manages multiple budgets;
  • Delivers community presentations;
  • Participates in LENA conference calls;
  • Oversees and trains Parent Educators;
  • Oversees Small Talk Support Coordinator;
  • Plans, schedules and implements programs;
  • Fills in as needed as parent educator, support or childcare coordinator;
  • Ensures adherence to LENA Start program requirements;
  • Maintains program records;
  • Oversees social media presence
  • Manages recorder uploads;
  • Ensures adherence to confidentiality requirements;
  • Coordinates promotion of the program;
  • Prepares reporting documents for grants associated with the project;
  • Attends required training and continuing education sessions;
  • Facilitates Small Talk Team meetings;
  • Adhere to Library safety and security guidelines;
  • Works cooperatively with other workgroups and staff members;
  • Plans work according to established procedures;
  • Represents the Library and the Small Talk Project in the community;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Education, Child Development or related field required.           

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: early literacy skills and practices; office management; computer applications; standard office and library machines.

Skill in: presentation; classroom management; customer service; written and oral communication; creative problem solving; critical thinking and decision-making.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Physical and Environmental Characteristics:

Vision Requirements: Minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects or parts, use of measurement devices or assembly of parts at distance close to the eyes.

Physical Requirements: Standing, sitting, walking, crawling, kneeling, lifting 20 pounds, carrying 20 pounds, pushing, pulling, gripping,

Environmental Conditions: The worker is exposed to significant lifting and transportation of materials needed for programming and delivery of program materials (such as tables, chairs and boxes of supplies). The worker may be exposed to adverse environmental conditions while traveling to and from Library to outreach site. The worker is required to provide own transportation for programming and delivery of program materials.

This position works with the public and is expected to attend to hygiene and health emergencies.

Selection Process:

The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, an interview, and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status.
