Calling all young poets and writers! (You don't have to write poetry to join the fun.) You are invited to join poet Caleb Rainey, "The Negro Artist," who will lead a free series of three poetry workshops as part of the Swift Youth Writers Group.

  • Sunday, January 7: 2-4pm, Danfoss Room or Online
  • Sunday, January 14: 2-4pm, Rotary Room or Online
  • and Sunday, January 21: 2-4pm, Danfoss Room or Online

Held in-person and hybrid at the Ames Public Library, these workshops build upon each other to prepare your poem for a contest to be considered for scoring by Dr. Ron McCurdy, the composer of the “Langston Hughes Project.” To kick off the performance at Stephens Auditorium on February 8th, Caleb Rainey will perform the winning poems, accompanied by Dr. McCurdy’s music.

Don’t miss your chance to learn from an acclaimed poet/artist and develop your poetry skills and showcase your talent! For more information, visit

Registration is required, and participants should attend all three workshops. Register by e-mailing
