Topic: The 1920s Building Boom in Downtown Ames

Presenter: Sharon Wirth, Museum Board Member

The Pantorium, Carr Hardware and Sheldon Munn’s addition - Oh, My!  How and when did the look of Ames' downtown buildings transition from the Victorian era appearance to a more modern look?  What thriving businesses dotted the commercial district's landscape?  What part did Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) play? 

Wirth will discuss the many changes occurring during the 1920s time period, the architectural transformation and the community leaders who made it happen.
